The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at DeSales University announces the addition of a Supply Chain Management (SCM) concentration to the curriculum. DeSales MBA will offer SCM concentration courses, which can be taken in class, entirely online, or a combination of both, starting in January 2016.
“Based on our research of local, national and global trends, we believe that the demand for supply chain professionals will increase significantly,” says Dr. David Gilfoil, director of the MBA program. “DeSales is now poised to offer a degree that will address that demand in a meaningful way.”
According to a 2014 report from Material Handling Industry (MHI), the leading logistics trade group, there is a need for supply chain, logistics, warehouse, and purchasing professionals at 270,000 per year extending through 2018, or 1.4 million job openings in total in the United States.
The MBA/SCM concentration consists of four SCM concentration courses, in addition to seven required MBA core courses and one capstone integrating course. The degree can be completed by full-time working professionals in as few as 18 months up to seven years – depending on the time and effort expended. Courses will be taught by deeply experienced SCM experts who know how to bridge the gap between academic theory and real world operational complexities.
“The SCM concentration will provide our students with a solid background in accounting, finance, marketing, strategy, and other core MBA areas,” says Gilfoil. “At the same time, it will provide them with focused project management, quality, logistics, purchasing, and IT systems training required of specialists who are facing SCM issues, challenges, and opportunities on a daily basis.”
