More than 600 students got their fill of free food and swag while learning about prospective job opportunities during the Career Development Center’s eighth annual CareerFEST.

Thirteen employers, including Copperhead Grille, Enterprise, Pennsylvania State Police, and Wildlands Conservancy, set up shop on the campus mall on Wednesday, August 30.

“It’s our opportunity to remind our first-year students that the Career Development Center is not a scary place to be, and it reminds our returning students that there are opportunities to discuss,” says Melanie Vallone, assistant director of career development. “We hope that students make great connections here.”

Bernadette Pope ’20 is one of the many students who has benefitted from the annual event. Last year, she came to CareerFEST searching for a job when she met a representative from Chick-fil-A. “I’m a full-time student but I needed a part-time job to pay for my bills,” she says.

Pope, an English and communication major, got the gig. This year, she was working behind the Chick-fil-A table as a team leader, recruiting fellow students to follow in her footsteps. “I just started working there so there’s a lot of opportunity.”
