Dr. Gerard Joyce Begins Term as Interim President

Dr. Jerry Joyce 

Dr. Gerard J. Joyce currently serves as interim president of DeSales University, formerly Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales. He is a graduate of Allentown College and began his career there in 1991.  

Joyce was named vice president for student life in July 2005, after serving as dean of enrollment management (1998-2005), director of conference services and the McShea College Center (1996-1998), and director of student programs (1993-1996).

He began his career as residence hall director in 1991 and also served as weekend activities coordinator (1992-1993). Joyce also has teaching experience, working as an adjunct instructor in DeSales’ Master of Education Program and in the business division and the department of social sciences.  

He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Allentown College in 1991, his master’s in counseling in education from Kutztown University in 1993, and his Ph.D. in education administration and policy studies from The Catholic University of America in 2009.

Joyce has also served as the chair of the Allentown Diocese Board of Education since 2014 and is a member of the American College Personal Administration (ACPA), the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), and the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC).

Joyce is married to Erin (Ford) Joyce, a 1995 and 2016 alumna of DeSales, and the couple has 5 children. The family resides in Allentown.
