DeSales University’s MBA program recently had the pleasure of hosting a fifth group of healthcare students from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Lima, Peru, for a week-long study tour. This visit provided our Peruvian guests, all doctors, nurses and dentists, with an overview and insight into pertinent issues and workings of the U.S. healthcare system. Industry presentations were given by Dr. Patrick Kenny from the DeSales University Nursing Department, Ms. Susan Johns and Eileen Goodwin from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Medicare/Medicaid office, Ms. Janine Haar and Mr. David Ritter from Benecon Insurance, Ms. Ruth Brennan from Blue Mountain Health System, and Dr. Wayne Stuart of the DeSales University Physician’s Assistant Program.
To enrich their experience and view actual operations in progress, the students also toured OAA Orthopaedic Specialists, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Lehigh Valley Hospital and Oral Dynamics. The DeSales University MBA program looks forward to hosting another group of healthcare students next year.
DeSales University’s MBA program director, Dr. David Gilfoil, remarked, “We are pleased to have such a strong relationship with UPC and always look forward to welcoming these medical doctors to DeSales each year. Both the US and UPC participants continue to articulate how much they value the experiences that we facilitate. We look forward to continued collaborations with them.”
DeSales has been in partnership with UPC for the past six years. This partnership affords our universities the unique opportunity to offer reciprocal cross cultural study tours.
