Now through Saturday, May 9, when the semester ends, students with a DeSales University dining plan will be asked to donate money to Catholic Relief Services, which is funding earthquake relief efforts in Nepal.
Student contributions will be taken from the student’s semester dining account. Cashiers in the DeSales University Center, who work for the University’s food service company Sodexo, Inc., will ask students for donations.
“Some students use their remaining dining money for cases of water or soda,” said Fr. John Fisher, OSFS, assistant professor of theology, who conceived the idea. “How about donating a portion to brothers and sisters whom we do not know, but are certainly in need.”
One DeSales student, physician assistant major Rajendra Shrestha, is from Nepal and his family, while safe, is seeing first hand the devastation that the earthquake has inflicted.
“I am grateful to the students and the DeSales community for helping my country at this difficult time of ours,” said Shrestha. “The people of my country will thank you from the bottom of their hearts.”
