The DeSales University Physician Assistant Program competed in the 2014 Annual SAAAPA National Medical Challenge Bowl in Boston, Massachusetts on May 25, 2014. The DeSales 2013-2014 challenge bowl team consisted of the following members: Chloe Palma, Brianna Reilly and John Zerfass with team alternate Brienne Marks. The coach for the team is Kathy Ehrhardt, Assistant Director of the PA Program.

Our students competed against 72 teams from across the country. The national challenge bowl begins with 40 multiple choice questions that the team answers using audience response system clickers in a timed format. The top 36 teams advance to the next round. Our team placed 1st in this round. Of the 36 teams that made it to the second round, only three teams were from Pennsylvania. These teams included: DeSales University, Philadelphia University, and Misericordia University.

In the 2nd round they competed against Methodist University, Mississippi College and Southern Illinois University. The DeSales team won this round and advanced to round 3. In round 3 they competed against George Washington University and Florida State. The DeSales team again won this round and advanced to the final round to compete against Nova Southeastern University-Jacksonville, Miami Dade College and Mass College of Health Sciences (the wild card). In the final round our team finished in third place, one question behind the winning team.

The DeSales PA faculty and staff are very proud of the challenge bowl team and their hard work and performance at this year’s challenge bowl.
